My name is Emily, and I am a Webster Award winning journalist currently based in Kelowna, British Columbia. I have a passion for reporting on social justice topics, and amplifying diverse voices.
Through my current work with Rogers Sports & Media, I’ve been able to cover Olympic Trials, Indigenous initiatives and the current housing crisis in the Okanagan.
During my time in BCIT’s Broadcast and Online Journalism program, I had the opportunity to intern at CityNews Vancouver, CBC Toronto, and TransLink. These experiences helped me prepare to work in a fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
During my time at CityNews, I covered election night around Metro Vancouver, shadowed experienced reporters, and had multiple original story ideas make it to air.
My time at CBC Toronto was nothing short of amazing. I interned on the radio show As It Happens which was my first experience having a five hour deadline. I produced multiple stories per day, covering anything from the overdose crisis in Saskatoon, to tools made of bones that date back to millions of years ago.
Once I was back from Toronto, I worked with a group to produce a documentary titled “At What Cost? The Legacy of Florence Girard,” which followed Girard’s story in the final years of her life while in the care of Community Living BC (CLBC). The story also showcased the scary reality for families who might have to rely on resources like CLBC to care for their loved ones.
